Susan Zieger is Professor of English Literature at the University of California, Riverside. She received her BA in English Literature from Dartmouth College in 1995, her MSc in the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology from Imperial College, UK in 2000, and her PhD in English Literature from the University of California, Berkeley in 2002. She is the author of Inventing the Addict: Drugs, Race, and Sexuality in Nineteenth-Century British and American Literature (2008), The Mediated Mind: Affect, Ephemera, and Consumerism in the Nineteenth Century (2018), and numerous articles investigating the intersections of consumption, identity, and mass culture.

Her current project, Logistical Life, explores the effects of the art, science, and technology of logistics on modern life; this is the focus of her participation in the Working Group “The Art of Judgment” within Department III, “Histories of Planning” .

With Nicole Starosielski and Matt Hockenberry, she is co-editing the volume Assembly Codes: The Media of Logistics, forthcoming from Duke University Press. She has received fellowships from the American Council of Learned Societies and the Huntington Library. She serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Victorian Culture, on the Delegate Assembly of the Modern Language Association, on the Executive Council of the North American Victorian Studies Association, on the faculty of the Dickens Universe, and is affiliated with the v21 collective.
