Maureen N. McLane is a poet and scholar of Anglophone poetries, specializing in British romantic and twentieth–twenty-first century poetries in English. She was educated at Harvard, Oxford, and the University of Chicago, where she received her PhD in 1997; she was awarded a Junior Fellowship at Harvard, after which she taught in the History and Literature Program. In 2008, she moved to New York University, where she is Professor of English. McLane is the author of several books and essays on romantic and contemporary poetics and discourses on knowledge, including Balladeering, Minstrelsy, and the Making of British Romanticism (Cambridge University Press, 2008). McLane is also a widely published poet and critic, author of five books of poetry—most recently Some Say (2017) and Mz N: the Serial (2018), both from Farrar, Straus and Giroux; her selected poems, What I’m Looking For, is forthcoming from Penguin UK. Her work has been or will be translated into Czech, Spanish, Greek, French, and Italian. Current projects include a book of essays on notational, parenthetical, and compositionist poetics as well as research on the ongoing fortunes of romanticism.
