Ann-Sophie Lehmann

Visiting Scholar (Mai 2018)

Ann-Sophie Lehmann is professor for art history at the University of Groningen, where her research explores how materials, tools, and practices partake in the meaning making of art; how images and texts represent and reflect creative practices; and how knowledge about making engenders material literacy. Lehmann studied art history at the of Universities of Vienna and Utrecht. In 2002 she became assistant professor and later associate professor at the Department of Media & Culture Studies at Utrecht. Lehmann has published widely in English, German and Dutch and regularly speaks at international conferences. She has received fellowships from the Warburg Institute, the Getty Research Institute, and the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science. She is editor of the forthcoming series Studies in Art & Materiality (Brill) and serves on the editorial boards of the Netherlands Yearbook for History of Art and Kunstschrift. She acts as reviewer for NWO, NIAS, AHRC, and DfG and is a member of the scientific boards of the Making & Knowing Project (Columbia University, NY), Arttechne (Utrecht), NICAS (Amsterdam).
