Measuring the Earth Discussion Group

The group will continue its discussion of climatology and meteorology, discussing this time both how data move from being local measurements to become global and these global data feed models. To initialize discussion we will read the following texts:

  • Chapter 8. Making Global Data of Paul N. Edwards, A Vast Machine: Computer Models, Climate Data, and the Politics of Global Warming (Cambridge, Mass: MIT Press, 2010);
  • W. S. Parker, "Understanding Pluralism in Climate Modeling," Foundations of Science 11, n. 4 (dicembre 2006): 349–68, https://doi.org/10.1007/s10699-005-3196-x.
