ISMI: Eine Ressource des 21. Jahrhunderts für islamische wissenschaftliche Manuskripte
No 60

ISMI: A 21st-Century Resource for Accessing Islamic Scientific Manuscripts
No 60
The Islamic Scientific Manuscript Initiative (ISMI) started more than ten years ago with a mission to make accessible information on all Islamic manuscripts in the exact sciences, whether in Arabic, Persian, Turkish, or other languages. Tens of thousands of scientific manuscripts located in repositories worldwide currently remain unread, leaving questions about the authors, copyists, and readers and their historical context unanswered. The ISMI database was created as a resource to go beyond the studies of a few individuals and manuscripts, and to view Islamic science as a social endeavor.
