Steffen Ducheyne

Steffen Ducheyne is a Research Professor at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He studied philosophy and completed his postgraduate studies in logic, history and philosophy of science at Ghent University, obtaining his PhD in 2006. He has published widely on the history and philosophy of science. His work has appeared in: The British Journal for the History of Science, Synthese, Annals of Science, Journal of the History of Philosophy, History of Science, Kant Studien, Journal of the History of Ideas, Science & Education, Studies in History and Philosophy of Science Part A, Archive for History of Exact Sciences, and in many other journals. In 2012, his monograph “The main Business of natural Philosophy”: Isaac Newton’s Natural-Philosophical Methodology (Springer) appeared, for which he received the Jan Gillis Prize of the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Sciences and Arts in 2014. He recently edited a volume on the Radical Enlightenment, titled Reassessing the Radical Enlightenment (2017, Routledge). In the last couple of years, he has worked on the spread of Newton’s work in the Dutch Republic, focusing on Bernard Nieuwentijt, Herman Boerhaave, W.J. ’s Gravesande, and Pieter van Musschenbroek.
