Maryam Zamani

Maryam Zamani is a physicist and data scientist who completed her PhD in condensed matter physics with the grade summa cum laude at Shahid Beheshti University, Tehran, Iran in 2014. In her PhD thesis, she developed an analytical model to calculate surface statistics using light scattering and tested the model with her experimental setup at the University of Texas, Austin, USA. After her PhD, because of her great enthusiasm for complex networks and data science and her background in statistical physics, she changed her field of research to complex networks and started to work as a postdoctoral researcher at the Hungarian Academy of Science and at Eötvös Lorand University in Budapest, where she worked on optimization and performance of dynamic and complex networks.

In 2019, she joined the Nonlinear Dynamics and Time Series Analysis group at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems in Dresden, Germany as a researcher. She took part in various projects as a time series analyst of financial markets, studying knowledge growth in different fields of science using citation networks of scientific publications and investigating the evolution and transformation of scientific knowledge in the early modern period. The latter was in a joint collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin, where she has been working since the beginning of 2022.
