Kristine Palmieri

Kristine Palmieri is a PhD candidate at the University of Chicago, pursuing her degree jointly with the Committee on Conceptual and Historical Studies of Science and the Department of History. She has an M.St in Modern British and European History from the University of Oxford. Her research concerns the history of the human sciences and the humanities with a focus on philology. Her dissertation examines the evolving status and function of philology amongst German speaking academics in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. She has previously worked on the history of Sanskrit scholarship and Indian Studies in Victorian England. Her paper, “Friedrich Max Müller’s Objection to Darwin on Language: Beyond Science Versus Religion” won the Richard Hadden Prize for the Best Graduate Student Paper at the Canadian Society for the History and Philosophy of Science annual conference in 2017.
