About
The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science is looking to employ a Student Assistant (up to 60 hours per month) in Research IT, to work on digital solutions for research in the history of science, limited until March 31, 2019, with the possibility of extension.
You will work on the realization of digital projects, taking part in all aspects of digital research. Your specific tasks will depend on your prior experience and interests, and your ability to acquire relevant knowledge in a self-directed manner.
You will be involved in data analysis and preparation, development of web applications and digital prototypes, and employing digital methods such as image analysis, GIS and data visualization, network analysis and linked data. In addition you will assist in project planning, event organization and communication (training, talks, workshops, etc.).
Your Profile
- Enrolled at a university in Berlin or Brandenburg (min. third semester)
- Highly organized
- Good communication skills (German and English)
- Interested in Digital Humanities
Desired Skills
- Coding experience in JavaScript, Python, R, or similar
- Prototyping skills (paper-based or using Adobe Experience Design, UXPin, or similar)
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and bash scripting
- Familiarity with databases (SQL and Graph databases)
- Familiarity with Linked Data
- Experience in one or more topics of Digital Humanities
The salary is paid according to the rates for student employment in the frame of the Max Planck Society’s program to support junior scientists.
