Research Project "Web GIS Platform of Historical Maps of China" Receives SSHRC Connection Grant

The MPIWG research project The WebGIS Platform of Historical Maps of China, an open, nonprofit platform for sharing resources on Chinese historical maps, has been awarded a Connection Grant from the SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council). The Canadian research funding agency promotes and supports research and training in the humanities and social sciences.

The SSHRC grant will be used to further enhance interactive web-mapping of Chinese history of the Western Han period by developing designated tools through an international, interdisciplinary collaboration between Raja Sengupta and Griet Vankeerberghen (McGill University, Canada), and the MPIWG research project participants.

The WebGIS Platform of Historical Maps of China is an open and nonprofit platform for sharing resources on Chinese historical maps conducted by the history department of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTUMAPGIS). The MPIWG research project The WebGIS Platform of Historical Maps of China aims to set up visualized and analyzable spatio-temporal layers on the WebGIS platform.
