Affiliated Scholar Sonja Brentjes Awarded by the International Commission for the History of Mathematics

Affiliated Scholar Sonja Brentjes has been awarded the May Prize by the International Commission for the History of Mathematics (ICHM) for her extensive research on the mathematics of medieval Islam, including her most recent monograph Teaching and Learning the Sciences in Islamicate Societies. The monograph thoroughly surveys teaching texts and ICHM_Logotheir contents as well as forms of classification of knowledge that serve as the basis of intellectual life in the Islamic Near East.

The May Prize, named after mathematician and historian Kenneth O. May, is awarded every four years to honor outstanding contributions to the history of mathematics.
