The Development of China’s English-Language Scientific Journals

After the establishment of the PRC, the English-language scientific journals launched by Chinese academic institutes played an important role in reporting major research results, disseminating scientific and technological information, and communicating with foreign scientists. From the Cold War to Reform and Opening, those scientific journals had different characteristics and missions in different periods, which were influenced not only by the policies of the Chinese government, but also by the international situation.  Exploring the development of China’s English journals is helpful to understand how China participates in global science communication.

About This Series

The LMRG Research Workshop is a venue for members of the Lise Meitner Research Group, "China in the Global System of Science," to share work in progress on an ongoing basis. It is an opportunity to raise questions, discuss methodological challenges, or get feedback on preliminary conclusions. We aim to create a supportive atmosphere that combines rigorous criticism with genuine curiosity.
