Madhu Narayanan is a PhD candidate at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM), Chennai, India, with an MA in Anthropology from the University of Madras, Chennai. Prof. Roland Wittje, is supervising his PhD, which explores the history of bamboo basket-making practices in South India. Narayanan's research addresses questions related to the history of craft and technology by looking at the epistemology of bamboo basket making in South India. Interested in the entangled history of plants, people, crafts, and their political economies, as can be seen in his article “An Age-Old Craft in the New Age Pandemic,” Technology’s Stories, March 2021 and his paper “Making Bamboo Baskets: Craft and Technology in Twentieth Century South India” at the Society for the History of Technology Early Career Interest Group (SHOT-ECIG) workshop on 18–21 November 2021, in the Virtual Annual Meeting of SHOT-HSS.
