Jennifer Rampling

Jennifer Rampling is Assistant Professor of History at Princeton University, where she teaches in the Program in History of Science. She received her PhD in History and Philosophy of Science (HPS) from Cambridge University in 2010, prior to holding a Wellcome Trust Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in the Department of HPS. She works on the history of late medieval and early modern science and medicine, particularly the relationship between alchemical ideas and practices in England from 1300–1700. Her work at the MPIWG will contribute towards a new book project on alchemical imagery, informed by recent attempts to reconstruct early modern experiments. From 2013–2017, she was Editor of Ambix, the main specialist journal in the history of alchemy and chemistry. She is co-PI (with Anthony Grafton) of “The Winthrop Family on the Page,” a digital humanities project that examines the culture of Colonial America through the history of reading, using annotated books owned by five generations of the Winthrop family.
