This study of the history of hydrostatics fills a gap in the project undertaken at the MPIWG on the origins of mechanics, which hitherto has not included a study of liquids. It is, in effect, a Max-Planck style epistemological history of hydrostatics. The results of this study have been published with Springer (2017) as One Hundred Years of Pressure: Hydrostatics from Stevin to Newton.
