Yael Harman

Visiting Postdoctoral Fellow (May 2024–Oct 2026)

Yael Harman is a distinguished microbiologist and environmental scientist with a strong focus on policy. She currently serves as the Head of the R&D Division and Vice-Chief Scientist at the Chief Scientist’s Office in the Israeli Ministry of Energy. Additionally, she has held the role of Energy Attaché to Germany.

At the MPIWG, Yael is a Visiting Postdoctoral Fellow in the research group “Experience in the Premodern Sciences of Soul & Body, ca. 800–1650,” focusing on integrating AI to enhance cybersecurity and resilience of energy infrastructures. She earned her PhD in Environmental Sciences from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2020, where she utilized her expertise in microbiology and wastewater treatment to investigate pollution abatement incentives among industrial companies in Gujarat, India. Previously, she obtained an MBA from the College of Management in Rishon-Le-Zion, an MSc in Ecology and Environmental Studies with distinction from Tel-Aviv University (TAU) in 2005, and a BSc in Life Sciences, also with distinction, from TAU in 2003.
