Gabriel N. Rosenberg is Associate Professor of Gender, Sexuality, Feminist Studies and History at Duke University. His research investigates the historical and contemporary linkages among gender, sexuality, race, political economy, and the global food system.
His first book, The 4-H Harvest: Sexuality and the State in Rural America (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2015), is a gendered and sexual history of the United States Department of Agriculture’s iconic 4-H youth clubs. His writing also appears in Boundaries of the State in US History (University of Chicago Press, 2015) and Queering the Countryside: New Directions in Queer Rural Studies (New York University Press, 2016) as well as in GLQ, American Quarterly, and Diplomatic History. He has been awarded prizes from the Agricultural History Society and the Business History Conference, a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship from Yale University’s Program in Agrarian Studies, the François André Michaux Fund Fellowship from the American Philosophical Society, and an Early Career Fellowship from the Humanities Center at the University of Pittsburgh. He is at work on two forthcoming book projects, Purebred: Making Meat and Eugenics in the Modern United States and Bad Husband: The Sexual Ethics of Agriculture.
At the MPIWG, he worked with the “Out of Place, Out of Time” Working Group and the "Proteins and Fibers" Working Group within Department AAK’s “Bodies of Animals” project.
