Jürgen Renn on the idea of a potential new Max Planck Institute:
"We are conducting an experiment with a system that we still have far too little understanding of."
In a new article by Petra Ahne, published online by FAZ (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung), Director Jürgen Renn and Robert Schlögl, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion (MPI CEC), talk about the possibility of founding a new Max Planck Institute for Geoanthropology that would seek to bring together disciplines such as biodiversity, geosystemics, mathematics, and the social sciences and humanities. The main goal of the new institute would be to rethink the relationship between humanity and the Earth, with a view to broadening our understanding of, and response to, climate change.
