In Memoriam: Jean Gayon

The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science mourns the loss of Jean Gayon, Professor at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and Director of the Institute for History and Philosophy of Sciences and Technology (IHPST). Jean Gayon wrote and edited 20 books covering topics from Buffon to Jacques Monod, from form and function of organisms, from questions in biology to its social and political extensions. Gayon served on the Advisory Board (1998–2003) of the MPIWG and contributed extensively to the Institute, being particularly involved in the department of Hans-Jörg Rheinberger.
