The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science welcomes Journalist in Residence Pakinam Amer, who joins Department III from May to June 2022.

Amer, a research affiliate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Center for Advanced Virtuality, is a writer, podcaster, and experimental storyteller. Her stories and podcasts have appeared in Nature, Scientific American, Boston Globe, and Associated Press. Previously, she was the editor-in-chief of Nature Middle East, and was also part of the production team of the MIT Center for Advanced Virtuality's Emmy award-winning interactive documentary, In Event of Moon Disaster, which centered around deep-fake technology and disinformation. 

During her residency, Amer will deliver online workshops open to Institute members. She will also work on her own research project The Eclectic Origins of Reconstructed Science Imagery and work closely with researchers at the MPIWG on communicating their work to a wider audience.

The Institute is pleased to host Amer for its first online residency program. Despite current pandemic constraints, the MPIWG seeks to enable international journalistic cooperation as well as enhance engagement and learning opportunities for our scholars in the areas of media and communication.
