Department III is looking to employ a
Student Assistant
(up to 60 hours per month), starting date as soon as possible, limited until September 30, 2018, with the possibility of extension
to work on the Asia Network project (software development). Asia Network is currently developing a research infrastructure for East Asian-language resources, using technologies such as Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and Javascript. The Student Assistant will be responsible for developing features for this infrastructure, using the Ruby (Rails) and Javascript languages in the framework of an agile development methodology. The student will report to Asia Network’s IT Architect.
Desired Skills
- Knowledge of Docker
- Knowledge of Ruby on Rails (or another MVC framework such as Django)
- Working knowledge of Javascript
- Awareness of best practices in software development methodology (unit testing, code cleanliness)
- Knowledge of GIT
- Knowledge of REST protocol
Tasks to be Performed
- Feature development for Asia Network’s research infrastructure using Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and Javascript (Jquery and Vue.js)
- Functionality design and implementation for Asia Network’s research infrastructure using the UML language and modelling tools (such as Balsamiq)
Applicants must be in at least their third semester of study at a university in Berlin or Brandenburg. The salary is paid according to the rates for student employment in the frame of the Max Planck Society’s program to support junior scientists.
