In 2020 Director Emerita Lorraine Daston won the Gerda Henkel Prize. In light of the development of the COVID-19 pandemic, the award ceremony took place in the fall of 2022. During the ceremony Daston gave a speech about the "dream of unity in science" and exchanged views on the history of scientific illustrations in a panel discussion with art historian and chairman of the Gerda Henkel Foundation's Scientific Advisory Board, Peter Geimer.
