This meeting embraces a critical and feminist media approach to archival research and the stories constructed from it. Harvard-based scholar, biologist, and artist Beatrice Steinert animates the archives of two mid-twentieth century developmental biologists to recover what has been lost—images of tissues and organisms, embodied knowledge, and the expertise of marginalized scientists—and explore the possibilities of experimental approaches to the history of science.

About This Series

This event is part of the
Laboratory for Oral History and Experimental Media Spring 2024 series.

This new series of monthly institute-wide meetings begins a collective exploration of the theory and practice of oral history and ethnography as powerful, multimodal research methods for recovering perspectives and experiences that are often absent from traditional archives. Together, we will engage with diverse forms of research and communication across a range of media and visit local sites of interest.
