Research Data Management (RDM)

The RDM contact point of the Library, Steffen Hennicke, can advise you or your research team on issues related to research data management. Get in touch at rdm@mpiwg-berlin.mpg.de to set up a meeting.

We can check your data management plan for your grant proposal, advise you on how to document your data during your research, and provide guidance on how to appraise and select data for publishing, and to find an appropriate repository to deposit your research data.

  • What are Research Data?

    We all create and use digital data in our research projects these days. That might mean digitized personal papers, audio and video recordings of oral history interviews, the Word documents containing their transcripts, a database where you collect metadata about cuneiform tablets, annotated pages of digitized rare books, or the website where you present your findings to a wider audience.

     

  • Why Research Data Management?

    All these types of research data, and many more, are valuable scientific outputs and underpin your work no less importantly than citations of printed primary and secondary sources from libraries and archives. That makes it crucial to follow the same principles of good scientific practice as when handling non-digital research data.

    Research data management (RDM) can help you to document, publish, and archive your digital research data in such a way that they can be found, retrieved, understood, and utilized by other researchers, and that your research results are transparent and verifiable.
