Ian Matthew Miller received his PhD from Harvard University in 2015, and is currently Assistant Professor of East Asian history at St. John’s University in New York. His research focuses on the long-term interplay between social and environmental change. He is completing a book on property rights and forestry in early modern China. He is also interested in using digital humanities to bridge the methodological divide between local case studies and macroscopic trends.
