Research Reels: Biomedical Visions: Epistemology, Medicine, and Art Practice
“Biomedical visualizations [...] are created and interpreted by humans and susceptible to ambiguity, manipulation, and bias.”
Former Publication Manager Elizabeth Hughes presents her recent publication, co-edited with Alfred Freeborn, which explores how visual representations shape our understanding of health, illness, and the body. Bringing together artists, activists, medical professionals, and academics, the volume examines how biomedical images are shaped by human interpretation, while highlighting collaborative approaches that bring artistic and scientific perspectives into closer dialogue.
