Ping-tzu Chu

Ping-tzu Chu studied Chinese Intellectual History at Harvard University, obtaining his PhD in 1998 with a dissertation on the rise of the Neo-Confucianism in the Southern Song (1127–279). He has been teaching at National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan since 2002. The courses he offers are mostly related to Chinese thoughts and intellectual history. He has also worked on digital humanities since 2010. From 2014 to 2017, he was in charge of a project to promote digital humanities research in Taiwan. He has also taught classes related to applying digital tools on humanities research since 2015. His current project in Taiwan is building a research platform for studying the Confucian Classics. Meanwhile he is working on one branch of the interpretation of the Book of Changes that started in the Northern Song under the name of Shao Yong 邵雍 (1012–1077). At the MPIWG, he is working on the project Classification Structures in the Local Gazetteers which deals with the structures of classification as a knowledge representation in local gazetteers.
