Núria Muñoz Garganté

Visiting Predoctoral Fellow (Dec 2022-Nov 2023)

Núria completed her BSc in Fundamental Physics at the University of Barcelona, and continued her scientific research with a MSc in Quantum Physics at the University of the Basque Country. During her studies, she was especially drawn to the conceptual problems of quantum theory, arising from the loss of physical intuition when crossing from the classical to the quantum level. Her MA thesis aimed to question the standard structure of quantum theory from a mathematical point of view, focusing on an alternative formulation based on real, rather than complex, Hilbert spaces. This work, and her previous BSc thesis on the historical evolution of the role of the observer from classical to quantum physics, highlight the importance of historico-philosophical perspectives in order to address the most foundational questions in physics, and science in general. She is currently working towards her PhD in the Max Planck research group "Historical Epistemology of the Final Theory Program," addressing the historical opposition between the Reductionist and Emergentist approach during the 1970's on the debate of fundamentality in physics.
