Circulations of Agricultural Knowledge in Persian, 1500–1700

Working primarily with New Persian sources, this project investigates connections between texts, authors, and patrons of agricultural knowledge, especially around the sixteenth century. Instructional manuals in particular—but also sections on agriculture from other genres—are read within a wider corpus, both temporally and across linguistic borders, in order to better understand how authors differentiated or integrated their approach within a broader tradition. I am particularly interested in how knowledge from classical and new sources is represented in these texts, as well as the social conditions of the reproduction of literate agricultural knowledge.
