The Lise Meitner Research Group "China in the Global System of Science" was recognized among the "Best Research Environments 2024" by Die Junge Akademie and Volkswagen Foundation. This new award honors research environments that promote "good science and research by cultivating individual strengths which combine to form a greater whole that benefits everyone."

The 24 shortlisted nominees were selected for their efforts in "actively shap[ing] inspiring, supportive, and fair working conditions." 10 groups were then randomly drawn to receive 10,000 euros which are to be "used for team-building measures or to further develop cooperation-based work, for example in the form of retreats, coaching, or further education and training."
