The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science (MPIWG) is an internationally respected research institute of the Max Planck Society (MPG) with currently two research departments, several research groups, and a graduate school. Around 200 employees and guests from all over the world are currently working at the Institute.

The Research Communication and Management (RCM) team, led by Dr. Hansjakob Ziemer, is looking for a new member to join the team from November 1, 2025:

A “Web Editing and Public Relations Assistant”

– Limited to 2 years, full-time, 39 hours/week, E 9a according to TVöD Bund –

The RCM team is a research service unit at the MPIWG. It brings together public communication, the use of audiovisual media in research and public relations, research support, and collaborations. The team plays a central role in making the Institute’s entire research visible to the outside world on a global scale. To support our work, we are looking for a committed individual with experience in research communication.

Your responsibilities:

  • Editing and maintaining the Institute’s website
  • Supervising and supporting the further development of the Institute’s newsletter and social media channels
  • Creating, editing, and publishing research-related content (e.g., text, images)
  • Coordinating and supporting the further development of the Institute’s print portfolio
  • Supporting the conception and implementation of communication measures (e.g., press and media relations, events, development of new formats)
  • Supporting research management (e.g., third-party funding databases, networking projects)

Your profile:

  • Completed training in media, communication, journalism, or comparable fields with entry-level experience
  • Very good knowledge of content management systems (CMS), such as Drupal, and database programs
  • Experience in social media
  • Very good knowledge of text and image editing programs (e.g., InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an enthusiasm for writing
  • Experience in web editorial processes and in the use of style guides and corporate design guidelines
  • Knowledge of current legal frameworks such as accessible web design (BITV) and data protection (GDPR)
  • Excellent written and spoken German and English
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and in a team
