Department II: Knowledge Systems and Collective Life, led by Dr. Etienne Benson, seeks to appoint an
Editorial Assistant (m/f/d)
(permanent 50 %-contract, TVöD E12)
starting on January 1, 2024.
The newly appointed colleague will join the team of Department II, which focuses on the relationship between knowledge systems and collective life. Researchers in the department use historical and ethnographic methods to explore the relationship between these overlapping domains in the past and present. Further information about the department can be found here. The working language of the department is English.
- copyediting, proofreading, formatting according to publishers’ style sheet, creation of bibliographies and indexes for academic texts in English, and possibly German and French or Spanish
- the setting up and day-to-day management of academic publication projects, including editorial work for English-language collective volumes and journal issues (in cooperation with student assistants)
- translating academic texts into English
- correspondence with authors and publishers, and organization of publication workshops (in cooperation with the departmental assistant and student assistants)
- editing of English texts, e.g., for the website of the department, its in-house publications, calls for papers/conferences, and other communications
- image research and the acquisition of digital files and publishing rights
- MA degree in a relevant field
- native-level English language competency
- a very good command of French or Spanish
- a working knowledge of German
- experience in editorial tasks, translations and management in an academic publishing environment
- very good command of office software for text processing, formatting, and manuscript organization including bibliographing and indexing
- experience with image editing and graphic design would be a plus
- you are a dedicated, reliable and creative colleague with a genuine interest in academic research and the ability to work in a team
