This essay will introduce the framework of boundary organizations in environmental science in China. As a first-year PhD requirement, the essay should outline the research design of my proposed PhD project. To begin, it will review current literature on the frameworks of boundary organizations and boundary work before considering their specific relevance in the field of environmental science in China, Taiwan and the international arena and their interactions with climate policies. The study’s overall aim is to look at the roles and experiences of environmental scientists when engaging with policymakers in China, Taiwan, and international organizations. Therefore, the essay will outline the study’s relevance, methodology and preliminary plans for the proposed fieldwork to interview scientists. To conclude, the essay will touch on how the study hopes to contribute to broader debates on science-policy interactions in climate science.
