Essay Film Course

The Essay Film Course is a practice-oriented crash course in filmmaking skills, designed for researchers who wish to incorporate audiovisual production into their own research practices. Central to this course is a consideration of the genre of the "essay film" as offering a visual language and a set of rhetorical strategies within the wider tradition of non-fiction filmmaking that is well suited to critical and historical enquiry. The course consists of one theory-focused day and four practical days. Throughout the course, participants will learn the necessary skills to develop and produce a short essay film (3-5 minutes) on their own research.
