In this talk Montserrat will introduce us to her project “camera obscura interactive database and timeline” and the use of digital tools such as as Filemaker for the database and OmniGraffle for the timeline.
Montserrat’s work surveys the camera obscura’s evolution in the Western world. She has created a timeline to provide a global overview of the history of the camera obscura and, as her work is also based on the selection and compilation of documentary sources, she has also produced a database with related illustrations. She is currently working on an online presentation of this timeline and database.
Her work is based on her documentary research done for her doctoral thesis: "The Camera Obscura as Prehistory of Photography” (2014), and it could be seen as an “analogic” database and timeline as part of the exhibition "On the camera obscura," shown in Cuenca and Ciudad Real (Spain) and at the MPIWG in 2015-16, and at the Spanish Embassy in Berlin 2016–17. This documentary part is still shown in the MPIWG library.

About This Series
Brown Bag Lunch is a bi-weekly meeting of researchers at the MPIWG who use or want to learn more about digital research methods, broadly encompassed by the term Digital Humanities. In the Brown Bag Lunch meetings, researchers can discuss tools, share ideas and experiences (good and bad), and learn from each other. Each session explores a new topic; workshops are usually interactive, and we often invite external speakers. Please feel free to bring your lunch, and a laptop or notebook in order to participate!
