Sachiko Kusukawa

Sachiko Kusukawa obtained her PhD in History of Science from the University of Cambridge in 1991. She has been a Research Fellow at Christ’s College, Cambridge (1991–1996), Visiting Mellon Professor at the Institute of Advanced Study, Princeton (1993/4), Guest Professor at the Ludwig Maximilian Universität München (2004), and a visiting scholar at the MPIWG (2004). Since 1997, she has held the post of Fellow of History and Philosophy of Science at Trinity College, Cambridge. In 2015, she became Professor of History of Science at the University of Cambridge.

Sachiko is interested in the visual and graphic practices of early modern science. She was Co-Investigator in a project “Diagrams, Figures, and the Transformation of Astronomy, 1450–1650” (funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, United Kingdom, 2010–2014), and is currently leading a project on the visual and graphic practices of the early Royal Society, also funded by the AHRC. In 2014, she curated an online exhibition on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Andreas Vesalius (1514–1564), “Vivitur ingenio.”
