Stewart Allen is a social anthropologist whose research combines interests in systems of knowledge, international development, material culture, and the social study of science and technology. His current research focuses on the ethnography of a stonemasonry apprenticeship program situated in Edinburgh, Scotland and explores forms of knowledge, modes of learning and the efficacy and organization of vocational training under the UK and Scottish Government's modern apprenticeship scheme. This builds upon his previous PhD research which explored systems of knowledge and enrollment within a solar development NGO in Rajasthan, India.
