Rebekka Åsnes Sagild

Rebekka Åsnes Sagild received her PhD in Modern China studies (Chinese Politics) from the University of Oslo (2022) with her thesis “Honorary Cooptation: A Study of Selected Elites in the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conferences.” Before this, she studied Chinese and China studies (BA, MA) at the University of Oslo, Beijing University and Zhejiang University, and political science (BA) at the University of Oslo.

Rebekka Åsnes Sagild is currently a senior researcher at the Norwegian Defense University College, Institute for Defense Studies, where she focuses on developments in the Chinese military, military-civil fusion, and Chinese domestic politics at the elite level. In her ongoing research she looks at domestic reactions to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, mapping differences in opinions concerning the Sino-Russian relationship. This involves making use of Chinese-language sources to identify key debates and features of contemporary Chinese perspectives.
