Christoph Rosol

Research Scholar (Sep 2022-Nov 2024)

I head the research cluster Anthropocene Formations in our department and work as a researcher and curator at Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW). Having studied history of science and media studies in Berlin and Toronto I joined the MPIWG in 2012 as a predoctoral fellow. Ever since then I have gradually established, devised and coordinated all Anthropocene-related work in the department, including the organization of the Anthropocene Lectures and the monthly Anthropocene Colloquia. Recently I have also developed and lead multiple larger-scale projects in that capacity, amongst them Mississippi. An Anthropocene River (together with Tom Turnbull), Anthropogenic Markers (together with Giulia Rispoli) and the Geoanthropology initiative (together with Jürgen Renn). Whenever there is time left I also do more reclusive research on the historical and technological epistemology of the climate and paleoclimate sciences, the Great Acceleration, and the technosphere (see publications below).

Concurrently with my start at the MPIWG in 2012 I became research associate in HKW’s The Anthropocene Project. As a member of the curatorial team ever since, I was principally involved in devising and developing the follow-up projects Technosphere and the long-term initiative Anthropocene Curriculum, a global platform for experimental research and education that I co-head together with Katrin Klingan. Such work at the intersection and shifting boundaries between the natural sciences, humanities, design, and arts enables me to engage productively with the numerous facets of Anthropocene research while studying it at the same time.
