Maura Dykstra is a historian of late imperial China. She received her PhD in late imperial Chinese history from UCLA in 2014. She has held fellowships at East China Normal University in Shanghai, the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History, the Center for Chinese Studies at the National Library of Taipei, Harvard University, and the University of Tokyo. Her current research focuses on the evolution of the Qing bureaucracy and the archival technologies that the Manchu state used to rule over its own officials and the locales for which they were responsible. Tentatively titled Empire of Routine: The Unexpected Administrative Revolution of the Eighteenth Century Qing State, her current manuscript project is an examination of the intersection of legal discipline and bureaucratic discipline in the late empire.
