Justin Cale Johnson

Cale Johnson is Professor of Wissensgeschichte des Altertums at the Freie Universität Berlin. He studied Assyriology, Comparative Semitics, Linguistics and Linguistic Anthropology at UCLA (1996–2004), including two years at Kyoto University (1999–2001). He came to Berlin in 2008 and was a postdoc at a number of institutes and research projects at the Freie Universität Berlin, including the Institut für Altorientalistik, TOPOI and Episteme in Bewegung (SFB 980). He was Deputy Head of the BabMed Project (2013–2018), and taught for a year at Leiden University and for two years at the University of Birmingham before returning to Berlin in the summer of 2020. He is currently finishing up two monographs: an edition of a Mesopotamian treatise on gastrointestinal disease (Gastrointestinal Disease and its Treatment in Ancient Mesopotamia) and an edition of the Middle Assyrian administrative archive M6
