Ian Lawson’s research focuses on early modern instruments, especially the microscope. He recently completed a PhD dissertation (University of Sydney, 2015) focusing on Robert Hooke's microscope from cultural, material and artistic angles, to examine the social and personal motivations for Hooke's influential epistemic ideas.
