PhD, Hans Rausing Professor of History of Science, Director, Uppsala University

H. Otto Sibum studied physics at Oldenburg University where he obtained his doctoral degree (Dr. rer. nat.) in physics in 1990. As Research Associate, he continued working in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at Cambridge University from 1991–1995. He habilitated in history at the Technical University of Braunschweig. From 1995 until 2007, he was Research Director of an independent research group at the MPIWG. Since 2007, he is the Hans Rausing Professor of History of Science and Director of the Office for History of Science at Uppsala University. His research focuses on the history of experimentation in the physical science, and his current research project investigates gestural knowledge in scientific practice.
