Daniela Trinks studies the cultural history of the East Asian board game Go (Baduk, Weiqi) and its transmission across regions and traditions. She received her Diploma in Environmental Science from Leuphana University Lüneburg before completing her PhD in Go Studies at Myongji University in South Korea in 2014. From 2015 to 2024, she served as Professor in the Department of Go Studies at Myongji University, where she taught Go culture, education, and English, supervised international students, and co-organized academic conferences and public outreach events.
She has published on a wide range of topics in Go studies, including the globalization of Go and the educational and cognitive effects of Go. Daniela has presented at numerous international workshops and conferences, published in the Journal of Go Studies, and contributes to the international game studies community as Vice-President of the International Society of Go Studies. She has served on editorial teams for Go journals and textbooks and has co-organized major conferences on Go. She is currently a Senior Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, affiliated with the research group "Astral Sciences in Trans-Regional Asia" (ASTRA), where she is translating and annotating The History of Go by Chihyung Nam to make this key work accessible to a wider scholarly audience.
