In Ms. Gal. 72 Galileo made use of a relation between distances and times for uniform motion which was first formulated by Archimedes (On Spiral Lines, Proposition 1). Galileo later integrated this relation as proposition 1/01-th-01 into the deductive theorie of motion presented in De motu locali:

IIf a moving particle, carried uniformly at a constant speed, traverses two distances the time-intervals required are to each other in the ratio of these distances.
