Towards a history of the history of science:
50 years since “Structure”

A workshop at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin
October 17-20, 2012

Local Organization Committee: Alexander Blum, Olaf Engler, Kostas Gavroglu, Christian Joas and Jürgen Renn

Structure of the workshop

For the time being, participation is possible through invitiation only.

Instead of regular talks, the workshop will be organized into round tables with three participants and a commentator each.

Round table participants get 20 minutes each for a short presentation. The commentator gets 10 minutes for comments. Then the discussion is open to all attendants.

There will be two round table discussions in the morning and two in the afternoon, each lasting roughly 2 hours including breaks.

Participants will be asked to submit at least one written statement of up to 3 pages (including references in BibTeX format) on one of the suggested round table topics prior to the meeting. These statements will serve as the basis for discussion and will serve to increase the focus and level of discussion of the round tables. Participants are encouraged to submit individual statements on several of the suggested round table topics. These statements will be presented within the Edition Open Access environment (http://www.edition-open-access.de/) where they can be commented by other participants before, during, and after the meeting. After the meeting, the statements will be updated by the authors and published in book form within the Edition Open Access.

The meeting will be videotaped and a video archive will be presented on the web shortly after the conference.
