Sascha Topp

Sascha Topp was part of the Research Program in the History of the Max Planck Society (GMPG) from 2017 to 2022 with the project “History of the Behavioral Sciences, Neuroscience, and the Cognitive Sciences (BNC) in the Max Planck Society.” He has a PhD in History and Cultural Studies from the Justus-Liebig-University of Giessen (dissertation published in 2013). His MA at the Freie Universität Berlin focused on History and Cultural Studies, Political Science, and Economics (1997–2005).

Between 2006 and 2014 Sascha worked as a Research Assistant at the Institute for the History of Medicine, Justus Liebig University of Giessen (2006–2014). He has undertaken postdoctoral research on medical selection in the recruitment of migrant workers, and partipated in a project entitled “Practice and Function of Health Investigations under the Influence of Economic and Political Interests of the Federal Republic of Germany, 1955–1973” (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, 2011–2014). Sascha has also  taught the history, theory, and ethics of medicine at the Medical Faculty of the Charité, Berlin (2007), at the Medical Faculty of the Justus-Liebig-University of Giessen (2009–2013), and the Medical Faculty at Philipps University Marburg (2009–2014). He has contributed to a biography of the former president of the Max Planck Society, Der Wissenschaftsmacher. Reimar Lüst im Gespräch mit Paul Nolte (2008), and undertook historical research for the television documentary “Faszination Orient—Das Leben des Max von Oppenheim,” broadcast by DasRest (NDR) (2009).
