Barbara Tramelli

Dr. Barbara Tramelli obtained her PhD in Art History at the Freie Universität in Berlin in 2015. From 2011 to 2015 she worked at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in the Art and Knowledge in Pre-Modern Europe, 1300–1650 Research Group. In 2016 she worked as chargée de mission for the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique on the project “Le livre Illustré à Lyon, 1480–1600,” funded by the Equipex Biblissima, in cooperation with the University of Oxford and the Warburg Institute in London. She recently published her book on the Milanese painter Giovanni Paolo Lomazzo in the Nuncius Series “Studies and Sources in the Material and Visual History of Science” (Brill, 2017). Her research focuses on the written transmission of artistic knowledge in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and in early modern alchemical practices of sharing recipes and materials in the visual and decorative arts.
