Karin Krauthausen
Visiting Scholar
Dr. des.
Residence: April 1, 2008–February 18, 2013
Profile
The main focus of Karin Krauthausen’s research lies in literature in the context of the history of knowledge in the 19th and 20th centuries. She therefore examines the relations of authors or literary phenomena to other fields of knowledge (especially mathematics and psychology of the 19th and beginning 20th century) and vice versa. What plays an important role in her studies are the technologies and concrete procedures used to produce the physical end-products of literary phenomena. Here the influence of the sciences and media techniques is often very obvious, although it may be nearly invisible in the final products. Another important part concerns the reflections of scientists, philosophers of science and artists on creative processes, for example, imagination.Karin Krauthausen studied Comparative
Literature, Art History and Italian Philology in Munich, Florence and Berlin.
From 2000-2003 she was a predoctoral fellow at the graduate school Bild - Körper - Medium. Eine

(1800-1900) at the Bauhaus University in Weimar. January to February 2007
she was a visiting fellow to the graduate school Codierung von Gewalt im medialen Wandel at the Humboldt Universität
zu Berlin. In 2008 she finished her Ph.D. on Paul Valéry's drawing theory and
practice at the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin. From April 2007 to March 2008
