Gloria Yu is a PhD candidate in the Department of History at the University of California, Berkeley. She studies the cultural and intellectual history of Europe in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, with particular interest in how science and philosophy have imagined the human, the body, and society. Her research interests include the history of the human sciences, theories of cognition and epistemology, scientific authority, the relationship between humans and technology, and the methods of Begriffsgeschichte. Gloria’s current research project examines the sciences of child and human development in Germany's long nineteenth century and the diverse efforts by various practitioners—physicians, educators, and psychologists—to map the transition between childhood and adulthood and arrive at an ontogenesis of mind.
